Daily Joust trial

For the past two weeks, I've been playing daily NBA at Daily Joust. This is a relatively low-traffic site compared to FanDuel and DraftStreet, but there's still plenty of action to be had.

Notice I'm (currently) freely plugging Daily Joust. So far, it's second only to DraftStreet for my daily fantasy sports play.

While Daily Joust lacks the amount of contests and entrants per contest, it makes up for it with contest creativity. There are contests where the goal is to simply score a certain amount of points, and you win. This "solo" contest is also combined into a league format where you compete in a 50-50 format against others, and the pool carries over between days until there is only one winner. Confused? It's pretty complicated, as outlined here.

Daily Joust also offers week-long contests where you pick a new team every day, but your score is a running total of each day combined.

But wait... there's more! A "survivor" contest is offered each week. This is a 50-50 format where half of the competition is whittled each day until there is only one entrant remaining. Cash prizes are awarded after each stage, starting at $5 until the final prize of $120 for the winner. I particularly like this format, but maybe it's because I won my first entry last week, and have made the final four again this week.

While I like the contest offerings, I can't say I like the user interface at Daily Joust. Compared to DraftStreet, it's much more difficult to find your open leagues, find your scores and find your opponents' scores. I also don't like the roster format, as many players are combined into two positions. I rely on exporting player salary data to excel, and the multiple position eligibility adds a layer of complexity that I'd prefer to not deal with.

But it is a plus that Daily Joust offers player salary data in excel format.

And let's not forget about the deposit bonuses. I was able to find a 40% deposit bonus for my first-time post-up. I suspect that will be an offer that will remain for the foreseeable future, as it requires a fair amount of play to get through that bonus money.
